Trini Blogger Meet up – Chaud Cafe

DSC_1175

This is what it looks like when you get 5 bloggers together to enjoy amazing food – a lot of picture taking.
Tuesday afternoon, we were brought together by the amazing Alison from Chaud Café.
We ate, we drank, we traded stories and tips.
It was such a pleasure to meet other bloggers in Trinidad.
This was the first blogger meet up and it was a smashing success!

Here’s who attended…

Before I make you hungry with all the amazing food we ate, let’s talk about Chaud Café.
Chaud Café is located in One Woodbrook Place.
Since I live in the One Woodbrook towers, we go there a lot.
The service is on point, the wine list is hard to beat and the menu is ever changing.
They have a large selection of healthy and not-so-healthy choices and recently have added gluten free pasta.
Alison tells me that they are exploring vegan options for the future too.
As a picky almost vegetarian, I can tell you that one thing I love about Chaud Cafe is that they are very accommodating.
If they aren’t slammed, don’t be afraid to make a small change to your meal.
You may even be able to request a lunch menu item at dinner, if available.
Those are the little things that make Chaud Café stand out.

Alison had us set up at a table by the window inside, smart woman – that table has the best light.
We were served drinks – some ordered juice, some cocktails…I had wine. #nobigsurprisethere
Soon after, the food started coming…here’s the menu.

Yes, that is wine spilled on mine…

The Cioppino was delicious.
It was the first time ever having it for me.

The Nicoise salad was a work of art!
There’s nothing prettier than a salad full of color.
It was good, the anchovies freak me out though…so I get rid of them right away.

The next item was the Smoked Salmon “Mimosa”.
I do not eat salmon, so therefore I just enjoyed the beauty of it.
Everyone else seemed to like it though.

I knew exactly what the next thing was…one of my favorites!
Wild Mushroom Ragout on Toast.
Seriously, if you visit or live in Trinidad, you must have this toast.
It’s SO good.
The Manchego cheese really seals the deal.

The Grouper Po Boy came out next.
This is another item I don’t eat, but I’ve seen at least 5 people eat in within minutes.
So, it must be delicious.

You simply cannot go to eat here without enjoying the best fries on the island.
HANDS DOWN.
Just go and try them – I’m not lying. #amazing
The arugula mayo is pretty tasty as well.

The Salmon Crudo was next and again, I don’t eat it.
It looked pretty and apparently the fried capers were amazing.

The grilled veggie cous cous salad arrived next.
To be honest, I always make cous cous at home, so I’ve never ordered it here before.
WOW.
That was a mistake, it was amazing and bursting with flavor!

I don’t eat pork, so I can’t tell you if it was good…but it sure looked pretty.

The Roasted Bone Marrow was next.
Have you ever tried bone marrow before?
I have read countless articles in Bon Appetite magazine about how amazing it tastes.
SO…I tried it.
gulp
It looks gross but to honest, it just tastes kind of buttery.
Not really my thing but apparently it’s a popular menu item.
(pat on back for trying it)

Unfortunately, I had to leave the meet up so I wasn’t around for the desserts.
I can tell you that I have personally tried them all a couple times and they are awesome!
My favorite is the flourless chocolate cake w/sour cream sherbet.

A HUGE thanks to Alison and Chaud Café for hosting this meet up.

I can’t wait for the next one!
