2017 was probably the craziest year I’ve had in a long while… It seems I was constantly being surprised by new opportunities, running PB’s, two moves and my all time highlight, running 50 miles at once. Looking back on it all now it’s hard to believe I packed it all into one year. I’m taking this morning to take it all in. Let’s begin shall we…
I spent the first week of the year with my entire family in Florida, who would’ve guessed we would be living there by November?!
I did not enjoy my 1st DNF due to asthma induced cold weather exercise but less than a week later, My 1st PB of the year came with the London Winter Run (my favorite run in London). I went alone and was in a “run for fun” kind of mood but I soon realized after stopping to hug a couple polar bears that I was on course for a 10K PB.
I went to Dubai for a guaranteed sunny holiday and got hit with a sand storm and chilly temperatures.
Life lesson learned – NEVER take a vacation just for sun…you will be disappointed.
Once again I started a race, as a pacer to my girl Shalena and had one helluva beginning… When I woke up my glucose monitor was in need of a blood test, however I was out of test strips. It was Sunday and I knew the only place to get tested would be a hospital, so my husband had remembered where a hospital was and had me there before the start of the race. They tested me without admitting me (lucky) and he had me by her side once the race began. While we suffered thru the hills of Bath together for most of the race, I ended up trying my hardest and ended up with a PB. TIME: 1:57:56
Then I realized I’d been selected as an ASICS FrontRunner UK team member. I still can remember reading the email and thinking it was a joke…out of the thousands upon thousands that entered all over the UK, I was picked. I felt like I had won the lottery, thinking of all the free shoes I was going to enjoy, I had no idea the family I would be a part of…still pinching myself about how I’m still on the team.
GOOD NEWS: We are taking on new team members, applications start January 15 – stay tuned for more info.
After a very unexpected twist of events, instead of moving out of the UK, we moved to Surrey. A huge house, away from the city and we were excited.
My parents arrived days later and boy did I need the help… After some unpacking, we all jetted off to Tenerife for 8 days of fun in the sun! One of our most favorite vacation destinations ever…
As soon as I said goodbye to my parents, I was off to Sri Lanka with my bestie Eileen. I had won the trip and the hubby couldn’t go so off we went. We enjoyed a week of unique experiences and sunny days!
I chopped off my hair and just in time for my birthday…
I was published in a national print magazine about my epic rock climbing experience.
My 1st ultra race, my goal was 8 laps and I finished 8 laps. The Spitfire Scramble is my all time favorite race and every year I wanted to go further, longer…and I did. Almost 50 miles – I suffered thru high blood sugars, low blood sugars, exhaustion and little sleep but it was the most exciting race of my life. And while it took everything out of me, it was worth every hour of training, every sore muscle and it felt so damn good to get that medal.
The BIG news came…we were moving, AGAIN. And this time, it would be to the US.
One of my coolest collaborations ever, looking at this everyday makes me inspired to be the best T1D runner I can…
I went to a equinox rave on the top of the tallest building in Europe…and it was AWESOME. Google Morninggloryville for your local fun happening…they happen all over the world! #somuchfun
Started the month with a fun girlie photo shoot, then I said goodbye to my friends in London.
Mr. Ripley survived a long Trans-Atlantic journey, then a 2 day car ride to Tampa and started loving his new home in Florida.
I convinced my parents to dress up for Halloween and we rocked out all nite…
I raced for the 1st time and realized how out of shape I had become….but I had fun.
Mr. Ripley loves his new Aunt Sugar and loves that he can go everywhere with me.
Another race completed and with each one I was feeling stronger…however I wasn’t stretching or going to yoga so therefore I got tight and injured.
Oh and I got a car for the 1st time in 9 years…and its cute.
I went to London and thought it was my last ASICS FrontRunner UK meet up but to my surprise, I was kept on the team despite my move. #awesome This group has been a real family to me and I’m so thrilled to grow with them for another year!
I raced my butt off at a ParkRun in Bath and couldn’t come up with a PB but it was damn fun.
I found a new love for bowling and managed a high score of 136 on Christmas Eve, not a bad way to end my 2017.
